The upcoming Robert DeNiro-directed "The Good Shepherd" follows the CIA from its earliest days in the second World War through to the Bay of Pigs incident in 1961.
With much of the CIA's history still left open though, screenwriter Eric Roth revealed to C.H.U.D. that he and DeNiro would like to revisit some of this film's characters in the next period of the CIA's history in a follow-up film.
"We talked about it before we got to get this one made" says Roth. He added "When we met, Bob had been working on a CIA project that was set in a different time period - his was from the 70s or so until the fall of the Berlin Wall. We kind of struck a bargain that if he directed this one I would write the second one for him".
In 'Shepherd', Damon plays a character partly based on James Jesus Angleton, the company's legendary counter-intelligence czar who's extreme paranoia led to a legendary madness that had adverse effects on the agency during the 1970's.
Will any of that be covered in an eventual sequel? "I originally had many years ago [a version of the script with] some scenes with that, but we decided not to do it... If we're lucky enough to do a part two we may do some of that".
