  • Grand Backing For Schepisi's "Bataan"
    By Garth FranklinThursday November 2nd 2006 12:08am
Grand Illusions Entertainment will produce the Fred Schepisi-directed World War II drama "Beast of Bataan" says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film was originally set to be directed by German helmer Paul Verhoeven ("Total Recall", "Basic Instinct"), but his duties on the recently released "Black Book" caused a scheduling conflict.

Verhoeven amicably left the project and Aussie helmer Schepisi ("Six Degrees of Separation", "Roxanne") came onboard. Charlie Hunnam (UK's "Queer as Folk", "Abandon") remains attached to star.

"Bataan" is slated to begin filming in Queensland, Australia early next year.

Grand Illusions is also at work on a remake of James Dean classic "East of Eden", Eric Red's supernatural thriller "100 Feet", and an adaptation of the Mob novel trilogy "Dark Legacy".
