  • Some Major Release Date Shifts
    By Garth FranklinSaturday August 12th 2006 9:10pm
This Fall is by far the most packed cinema schedule I've ever seen. Between now and Christmas Day there's at least three wide releases per weekend, many weekends hosting four or five in fact, and a similar if not greater number of limited releases.

More surprisingly September and October, usually relatively quiet months, are proving far busier than the November/December awards season. Naturally that kind of crowding means there's a lot of jostling for position with some films holding back to 2007, others jumping back or forward a few weeks or months to get a better run.

This week saw quite a few films change their release dates by not just a few weeks, but in some cases several months. Amongst the shifts:

Clive Owen & Julianne Moore sci-fi thriller "Children of Men" about a society where women are infertile has been moved back three months from late September to Christmas Day.

Thomas Jane/Diane Lane revenge thriller "Killshot" based on the Elmore Leonard book has been yanked from its October 20th release date. No new date yet announced.

Paramount's young serial killer flick "Perfume - The Story of a Murderer" has been delayed three weeks to December 27th.

Ryan Gosling/Anthony Hopkins psychological thriller "Fracture" has set an April 27th 2007 release.

Christian Bale gritty drama "Harsh Times" has been set for a November 10th release date.

Indie film "Starter for Ten" has been delayed from October to sometime in 2007.

Hot girls in bikinis fighting off ninjas action/comedy "DOA: Dead or Alive" has been delayed again from September 8th to October 20th.
