  • Billie Piper Leaves "Doctor Who"
    By Garth FranklinFriday June 16th, 2006 2:46pm
Billie Piper is leave "Doctor Who" in the nail-biting series two finale reports The BBC. Over the past two years, Billie has taken the character of Rose Tyler on an adventure of a lifetime, travelling across the galaxy with the Doctor.

The Beeb this time though has successfully avoided the minor PR land mine that struck when the first Doctor of the new era, Christopher Eccleston, departed under what was seen as unstable circumstances. Piper has confirmed she's leaving, that the split is amiable and that the door is open for her to potentially come back.

Russell T Davies, writer and Executive Producer adds: "The Doctor Who team have had a whole year to plan this final scene and have created a stunning exit for Rose Tyler. With a series climax called Doomsday on its way, I can't guarantee who will survive and who won't, but I can assure you the TARDIS is going on its scariest journey yet!".

Last week's episode "The Satan Pit" threw in a cryptic reference by a powerful alien creature that Rose could face a horrible death very soon. Doctor Who series three starts filming again later this summer and will return with a Christmas special in 2006 and another series of 13 episodes for 2007. The second series finale airs in the UK in July, no word yet on when the second series will hit American shores.
