iF Magazine just posted an interview with Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick who spoke for the first time about "Caprica", the spin-off prequel series he is developing.
Whilst it hasn't been greenlit yet, if it is they would begin shooting in August and at present they're about to begin work writing it.
At first their aim was to do "a style of storytelling that would be different from Galactica. We wanted something much more romantic, and much more of a soap". Then, recently they met with writer Remi Aubuchon who had his own similar idea and "Caprica" will be the melding of the two concepts.
As for the story, their original pich "dealt with a corporation and the man in charge of that corporation who in a very innocent and idealized way propagated the artificial intelligence technology that would later become [unbeknownst to him and those involved in the series] the Cylons"
