  • Early Cannes Titles Announced
    By Garth FranklinWednesday April 5th, 2006 11:58pm
The 59th annual Cannes Film Festival may as well be called a Hugh Jackman-fest as both Fox's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Warner Bros.' "The Fountain" are set to make their international debuts on the French Riviera in mid-May.

The official selection lineup is unveiled April 20, but already there's some locks including Sony's "The Da Vinci Code" opening the festival, Sofia Coppola's poppy costume drama "Marie Antoinette", Dreamworks CG animated comedy "Over the Hedge", John Cameron Mitchell's heavily sexual "Shortbus", Pedro Almodovar's hit Spanish drama "Volver", and a 20-minute preview of Paramount's Oliver Stone pic "World Trade Center".

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "Babel" with Brad Pitt & Cate Blanchett, Richard Linklater's ensembler "Fast Food Nation", and Guillermo Del Toro's Spanish-lingo horror movie "Pan's Labyrinth" all seem likely for slots as well.

Tipped to be joining but ruled out at present are the Diane Arbus biopic "Fur", Brian De Palma's LA murder mystery "The Black Dahlia", George Clooney project "The Good German", and David Lynch's California-set "Inland Empire".
