As we already know, "Final Destination 3" actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead and writing/directing duo James Wong and Glen Morgan are about to reteam in Vancouver to film a remake of Bob Clark's 1974 cult classic slasher film "Black Christmas".
The original starred Olivia Hussey, Margot Kidder and Keir Dullea, and followed four sorority sisters who find themselves the recipient of increasingly menacing phone calls before finding terror more horrifically manifested. This week, out doing promotions for FD3, two of the trio told Now Playing Magazine that its not exactly a direct remake/reinvention of the original.
Winstead says "It's interesting, because it's sort of both a prequel and a sequel [to the original]. The first chunk of the film follows the childhood and back story of Billy, who's the crazed killer. And then it picks up with the girls in the sorority house in present day, and Billy comes back for a visit. Then there are a lot of twists and disturbing turns, and things that you wouldn't expect. I start filming on Monday. I've already been up there doing rehearsals, and have gotten to know all the girls".
Wong hedges about giving too much away, allowing only that "There's stuff that's much darker [particularly as it pertains] to the killer". The film is aiming for an Xmas 2006 release.
