Director Doug Liman is bringing Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie action-comedy "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" to television in the form of a series on NBC. Liman confirms a nationwide search will be launched to fill the roles played by Pitt and Jolie - a married couple who are surprised to learn they both lead secret lives as paid assassins.
Pullitzer prize-winning "Brokeback Mountain" screenplay writers Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana are setting up an ensemble drama TV project at ABC for 2007. Currently titled "Sheriff Luke," the series centers on a sheriff -- a widower and Gulf War veteran with two teenage children -- in a small Midwestern town beset by such urban ills as illegal immigration and illicit drug use and dealing.
Matthew Perry, D.L. Hughley and Steven Weber have joined Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme's new untitled NBC drama set behind the scenes at a fictional long-running sketch-comedy series in the mold of SNL. Perry will play a genius comic writer who was forced out of his position as co-executive producer on the sketch show after a dispute with the network.
