  • More Sundance Acquisitions Underway
    By Garth FranklinThursday January 26th, 2006 12:38pm
IFC Films announced Wednesday the acquisition of North American rights to Patrick Creadon's crowd-pleasing Sundance Documentary entry "Wordplay." The Weinstein Co., with whom IFC has partnership, contols home video rights. The "Wordplay" sale of around $1 million became a hotly contested issue with both Warner Independent Pictures and Sony Pictures Classics crying foul.

Lionsgate on Wednesday paid $3 million plus substantial profit participation fees to purchase worldwide rights to the apocalyptic terrorist thriller "Right at Your Door". First-time feature director Chris Gorak's film about toxic bombs exploding across Los Angeles is told mainly through the relationship between a married couple, played by Mary McCormack (TV's "Murder One") and Rory Cochrane (TV's "C.S.I.: Miami").

"Factotum", the first English-language film by Norwegian director Bent Hamer, has reportedly been acquired by IFC Films. The film, an adaptation of Charles Bukowski's second novel, stars Matt Dillon, Lili Taylor, and Marisa Tomei. Dillon plays Henry Chinaski, a loser obsessed with drinking, sex and gambling (not necessarily in that order) who gets fired from every job he has.
