  • Set Preview: "House of Wax"
    By Garth FranklinMonday January 24th 2005 6:44pm
Last Easter, a random driver on a country road in Queensland Australia would've been surprised to have stumbled upon a seemingly abandoned town right out of the American 1930's complete with art deco-inspired convenience stores, full-sized cinematheque, church, gas station, hillside mansion and barbershop. The shock wouldn't have lasted long because security would've pounced a few seconds later.

That was just one of the sets for "House of Wax", the new horror thriller from Dark Castle, the Joel Silver & Robert Zemeckis lead production company behind such flicks as "House on Haunted Hill" and "Thirteen Ghosts". Several years ago they had such success shooting "Ghost Ship" up at the Warner Bros. studios on Queensland's Gold Coast that they came back for this contemporary remake of the Vincent Price 1953 classic.

The film follows a group of friends on their way to a college football game who fall prey to a pair of murderous brothers in an abandoned small town. They discover that the brothers have expanded upon the area's main attraction - the House of Wax - and created an entire town filled with the wax-coated corpses of unlucky visitors. Now the group must find a way out before they too become permanent exhibits.

In coming weeks leading up to the film's June 3rd release date, I'll be giving you a world exclusive online set report complete with interviews of the sexy young cast including "24" gal Elisha Cuthbert, hunk-a-spunk Chad Michael Murray and various assorted crew of this movie which includes such alumni as Brian Van Holt and the one and only Paris Hilton. What was Paris like to work with? Who gets the goriest death scene? Why does Elisha and Chad's hair look so strange? The mysteries will be solved right here....soon.
