    Clive Barker is set to share his unique brand of horror with movie and video game audiences in the form of "Demonik." The feature film has John Woo and Barker attached as producers. Barker has the option to write, having begun a treatment that is being shopped to studios by Woo's Tiger Hill Entertainment. The video game already is under way. "In this game, you'll not only be witness to the genesis of a new villain, but you can play him," Barker said.     Peter Hewitt ("Garfield", "The Borrowers") will direct space alien fantasy "Chuckle Bears" for Nickelodeon Movies with Paramount set to distribute. "Chuckle Bears," penned by Hewitt and Phil Hughes, centers on aliens from another planet who take the form of brightly colored teddy bears and go on a mission to Earth to banish sadness from the human race.     Fox Searchlight has hired writer-directors Alex and Andrew Smith ("The Slaughter Rule") to adapt and helm the graphic novel "Son of the Gun." Book was written by Chilean-born author and underground fillmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky ("El Topo," "Santa Sangre"), who went on to create cult graphic novels including "The Incal." Set in the criminal underworld of 1970s Mexico City, story is a modern retelling of "Oedipus Rex," but one in which the protag has a tail and carries a six-shooter..." (full details)

    Universal has acquired screen rights to the young adult fantasy novel series "Outcast" and set Charlie Mitchell ("Sinbad", "Cinderella Man") to write the script. The "Outcast" books, by Christopher Golden and Thomas Sniegoski, explore a young adult world of magic a la "Harry Potter" and "Shadowmancer."
