Lions Gate Films and Twisted Pictures announced on Tuesday that first-time writer-director Darren Lynn Bousman will direct "Saw 2," the sequel to last year's hit Halloween release. Bousman, a music-video and commercial director, also wrote the original screenplay for "Saw 2" in conjunction with Leigh Whannel and James Wan.

Principal photography is set to begin May 2nd in Toronto for a Halloween release, Bousman being given one of the shortest ever production schedules for a major feature film. He told Bloody Disgusting that "Gotta remain pretty tightlipped about the story at this point, other than to say, James and Leigh have been an amazing asset to me in creating and shaping the sequel. Many key players from the original production team will return to maintain the feel of the first film, while allowing me to introduce new horrific elements into the Saw universe."
