  • Up "Wolf Creek" Without A Paddle
    By Garth FranklinTuesday January 4th 2005 10:22pm
The Sundance Film Festival doesn't begin for a while, but Dimension Films has already snapped up rights to multiple territories on Greg McLean's Australian horror feature "Wolf Creek" for a whopping $3.5 million according to Variety. The film was scheduled to make its world debut in three weeks at the fest's new 'world cinema competition' section.

Budgeted at $1 million and inspired by real events, the thriller-horror is the tale of three backpackers who head into the Australian outback and experience a terrifying journey after meeting a seemingly friendly stranger. The film will bow January 24th at the festival.

The deal is unusual in the face of an uncertain future for Miramax Films and Dimension as Disney continues to negotiate the contracts of Harvey and Bob Weinstein. Arclight/Darclight Films and Mushroom Pictures distribute "Wolf Creek" in Australia.
