  • Thomas Has Another "Affair"
    By Garth FranklinThursday, November 11th 2004 9:49PM
So there might not be any more James Bond for Pierce Brosnan, but that won't stop him from subterfuge and trickery. On the eve of the release of "After the Sunset" in which he plays a retired jewel thief, Variety reports that the man will be reprising his role of a gentlemen art thief in a sequel to the 1999 remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair".

The new film to be entitled "The Topkapi Affair", will draw on material from 1964's "Topkapi," an MGM pic that many have attempted to get a remake off the ground for before. The original film's story revolves around the theft of a jeweled dagger from the famous museum in Istanbul.

This remake though, to be written by Harley Peyton, will not follow that storyline exactly but draw on elements from "Topkapi" and the book it was based on - Eric Ambler novel "The Light of the Day." Brosnan will return in the character of Thomas Crown.

This version of Crown though will be different according to producer Beau St. Clair - "New York during 'The Crown Affair' was thriving. Now his values, all the things he does, have been affected (by September 11). We want to take the character further, crack him open, put him in an international backdrop".
