Variety reports that Wes Craven has acquired Marshall Moseley's spec "Wild Card." Craven will develop the screenplay with an eye to direct. The script was one of the three finalists in the most recent Project Greenlight screenplay competition. Story concerns a con-artist couple who target a wealthy mark only to see things go horribly wrong.
Empire Online reports that John Woo has added another project to his already overcrowded slate. Already tied to game adaptation "Spy Hunter", the toy adaptation "He-Man", his collaborations with Chow-Yun Fat on "The War of the Red Cliff" and "Land of Destiny", and his long dreamed about musical.
Now, Woo has announced he will direct a remake of Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle). With the noirish atmosphere of the original, the story follows a thief and a murderer teaming up under pressure, the film is almost a return by Woo to the films that made his name in Hong Kong.
Finally, THR reports that "Darkness Falls" helmer Jonathan Liebesman has closed a deal to direct "Dead Asleep" for New Line Cinema. Penned by Carter Blanchard, the story centers on a small town that becomes infested with a species of killer bugs that come out at night. They burrow inside their victims' bodies, killing people from the inside.
