  • Alfonso's "Children", Twohy's "Planet"
    By Garth FranklinThursday, May 27th 2004 11:58PM
Alfonso Cuaron & David Twohy, the director's of the two big FX films starting off June ("Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban", "The Chronicles of Riddick") are both planning their upcoming projects already. The former has given an interview today to Sci-Fi about a potential end of civilisation movie he's working on. The later has one hell of a juicy rumour emerge about what high-profile remake he might be involved in.

First up Cuaron who says of the movie entitled "Children of Men" that "It's not really science-fiction. It's the world 30 years from now, [a time] in which for 18 years no human child has been born, for unknown reasons. Civilizations are falling apart. England is the last remaining civilization as we know it, because it's an island that's insulated itself from Europe, which is in civil wars and complete pandemonium. So the story takes place in that context. It's a story about hope and faith". More comments from him are up here.

Meanwhile, DH source 'Dreamweaver' hears a rumour that Dreamworks is after Twohy to step onto the the big sci-fi remake of the classic 1950's flick "Forbidden Planet", a movie that's dear to many genre fans hearts and not a title that anybody wants to see get screwed around with. Apparently Spielberg has seen at least part of "Riddick' and thought enough of it to go after David Twohy for the assignment. It's not a done deal yet, but some very long meetings are taking place. If you love the genre, keep your fingers crossed for this one.

    Thanks to 'SC' & 'DW'
