Those lucky buggers at Empire Online have gotten to see scenes from not one but two major Summer movies from 20th Century Fox this Summer and have posted detailled descriptions of them both online. Here's a glimmer:


"The Day After Tomorrow"
"Three scenes were played before our eager eyes, the first of which depicting the destruction of downtown Los Angeles by mother nature herself. Now, it's been a while since anyone in the office was chased by a tornado but, were twisters to descend on a major metropolitan area and begin tearing it to pieces, we imagine it would look much like this...

New York City was the venue for the second scene of destruction as a tidal wave sweeps over Liberty Island, engulfing the statue itself, and looming over Manhattan. Stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Emmy Rossum wade through waist deep water in the streets, making their way to the Public Library for shelter, unaware of the hundred metre wall of water gushing down the street towards them...

The final clip was a more character-driven spot with Dennis Quaid advising the president to evacuate the Northern Hemisphere as the icy storm consumes most of the country. Gyllenhaal and Rossum are still holed up in the New York library, the waters outside have stopped rising, but that doesn't stop a huge oil tanker ship from merrily cruising through the Manhattan streets ..." "Alien vs. Predator"
"The footage began with Lance Henriksen's industrial billionaire instructing his team of scientists and archaeologists as they make ready to enter the uncovered Aztec dig site deep within the Antarctic circle...The team discover a series of bodies with ruptured ribcages and are, in true shock-jump fashion, surprised by the desiccated body of a facehugger....

A quick glimpse of Predator vision heralds the arrival of an intergalactic hunting party as a group of adolescent Predators enter the temple to complete a coming-of-age ritual. Familiar images of people spraying machine gun fire at shadows as the Predators pick them off with spears and net-guns follow as the new arrivals thin the humans' numbers...

As people scatter left, right and centre, a pair of hapless souls find themselves locked in an Aztec chamber. "So what is this room?" asks one. "A sacrificial chamber," is her reply. Panels on a stone alter slide away and a series of alien eggs emerge from within, peeling open to reveal the slumbering face huggers beneath. We then cut to a Predator holding the screaming form of an Alien infant...

With effects shots still a work in progress, looks at the Aliens were few but we did get to see one locked in combat with a predator before seeing one of the hunters running side--by-side with Sanaa Lathan's character as a building explodes behind them..." (full description)
