After some quiet weeks, for some reason a lot of big name directors are suddenly linking themselves with new projects - many quite different to what we're used to from them according to Variety.
Ender's Game
"Warner Bros. and director Wolfgang Petersen ("Troy") have set scribes Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty ("X2") to adapt the Orson Scott Card books "Ender's Game" and "Ender's Shadow" into a film Petersen will direct. Petersen sparked to the bestselling books because he wanted to make a young adult fantasy -- terrain he hasn't covered since "The Neverending Story"..." (more info).
I'm Not There
"Paramount Pictures has reached a deal with Killer Films and Wells Prods. to produce writer-director Todd Haynes' ("Velvet Goldmine") next feature, a film about the life of Bob Dylan. Haynes is currently scripting the project, tentatively titled "I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan," at his Oregon home. The singer has licensed music rights to the production..." The Girls Next Door
"Roland Emmerich has made a deal to turn Peter Landesman's Jan. 25 New York Times Magazine cover story about sex slaves, "The Girls Next Door," into a feature film that he will direct. Emmerich, who is in post-production on summer pic "The Day After Tomorrow," is working up a story with Landesman and Rosilyn Heller..." (more info).
Untitled Gary Ross Project
""Seabiscuit" helmer Gary Ross is at the starting gate on his next film. He's made a deal at Universal to write, direct and produce an untitled drama about the public and private worlds of a high school boy.
