    Frank Darabont's Next: "Frank Darabont's Darkwoods Prods. has signed a three-year first-look production deal at Paramount Pictures, ending the shingle's association with Castle Rock. Darabont said his goal is to seek new projects of all genres along with continuing to develop the Darkwoods slate, noting Paramount will review those projects with an eye to possibly joining in as a financier -- except for "Fahrenheit 451," which he expects to remain at Warner Bros..."     Memoirs of a Geisha: "Robin Swicord ("Practical Magic", "Little Women") is in negotiations to pen a new script. Rob Marshall is helming the Columbia and DreamWorks co-production. The deal would pair Swicord with Steven Spielberg, who is exec producing "Geisha," for a second time. Last May, he personally made a seven-figure deal for Swicord's spec script "The Rivals" about dueling 19th century stage divas Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonora Dusend..." (more info).

    Pixar/Disney Split: "After spending much of the past year locked in talks with Mouse House execs over an extension of the current Disney-Pixar co-production pact, the Pixar chief said Thursday he's looking elsewhere for a distribution partner for the animation studio. Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros., Universal and Sony are considered possible new Pixar partners..." (more info).

    Are We There Yet?: "Revolution has cast Henry Simmons in "Are We There Yet?" for director Brian Levant, Ice Cube, Matt Alvarez and Dan Kolsrud are producing. In the movie, Ice Cube is a successful bachelor whose life is turned upside down when he agrees to take the children of the single mother he is wooing (Nia Long) from Portland, Ore., to Vancouver on the day before Thanksgiving. Simmons ("NYPD Blue") plays Karl, a rival suitor of Long's character..." (more info).

    Return to Sender: "Connie Nielsen, Tim Daly and Aidan Quinn are set to star in Bille August's indie drama. The project is shooting in Denmark and is scheduled to move to Oklahoma next week. The project centers on a woman on death row (Nielsen). Daly plays a blind man married to the sister of Nielsen's character, with Quinn starring as a down-on-his-luck lawyer who befriends the incarcerated woman by mail. Kelly Preston also stars as a lawyer..." (more info).

    Have Spacesuit, Will Travel: "Just days after picking up an original screenplay Academy Award nomination for writing "Finding Nemo," David Reynolds has closed a deal to adapt the Robert A. Heinlein science fiction classic "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel" for Warner Bros. Pictures..." (more info).

    The Interpreter: "U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan has agreed to let Sydney Pollack shoot his upcoming Universal Pictures/Working Title project "The Interpreter" inside the United Nations in New York, marking the first time a feature film has been allowed to film in the organization's headquarters. Shooting is being eyed to start in March, they will shoot only on weekends when the United Nations is not in session..." (more info).
