"Flushed Away" helmer David Bowers is set to direct the $50 million CG-animated feature "Astro Boy" reports Variety.
The lonely robot tale is an adaptation of a comicbook story created by manga supremo Osamu Tezuka and turned into a TV series in the early 1960s.
Colin Brady was previously announced as helmer. No word yet as to why Brady, who's helming the upcoming CG feature film based on "The Smurfs," was let go.
Imagi Studios, the Hong Kong- and L.A.-based outfit that last year delivered the disappointing "TMNT" CG feature take on the old Nina Turtles series, is producing the pic, which will be released in 2009 by Warner Bros. Pictures and the Weinstein Company.
