sp; The Hollywood ReporterThe July 4th Holiday weekend is always a big one and normally dominated by large film entries such as both "Men in Black" movies, "Spider-Man 2", etc. Next year though the competition for that weekend is looking to be quite fierce.
Til now it was thought there would be a face-off between Paramount's M:I-3 and Fox's "The Fantastic Four" for domination of the date. When M:I-3 was canned though, it was thought "Four" would rule alone. Not anymore.
Today's
<a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/film/brief_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000631033" target="_blank">The Hollywood Reporter</a> indicates that Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox are both sticking to their guns and launching major sci-fi films around that time. Fox's "Four" is still scheduled for Friday, July 1st but the Spielberg/Cruise collaboration on "War of the Worlds" will open two days earlier on Wednesday, June 29th, two days beforehand. Essentially 'War' is taking over the M:I-3 slot and there's still talk of other films squeezing in there.
