Alvin & His Chipmunks Are Back

By Garth Franklin Wednesday September 15th 2004 09:59PM

That most 20th century of fads - the 'Chipmunk' rage - is aiming for a comeback. Business Wire indicates that Fox 2000 Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Bagdasarian Productions will produce a live-action / computer-generated event motion picture based on the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" characters, which have appeared on the radio, TV and on musical albums.

Fox acquired the feature film rights from the estate of Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who created "Alvin and the Chipmunks" in 1958. His son and Janice Karman will produce, with a writer and director being sought to bring the franchise to life on the big screen.

Much like what Fox recently did with "Garfield: The Movie," the role of Dave Seville, the Chipmunks' adoptive father, will be live-action, whilst the Chipmunks - Alvin, Simon and Theodore - are to be computer-animated. Who will do their voices, which sound like a barbershop quartet with their balls shoved into a blender, is unknown for now.
