sp; The Hollywood ReporterIf the Aussies are the ones visibly taking over Hollywood, the Kiwis are slipping in quietly - ready for the kill. Seems every other movie of late has either Marton Csokas, Karl Urban or both in it and the pair continue to chock up notches on their bedposts...I mean resumes.
Urban, who first came to attention to US audiences as Julius Caesar on "Xena: Warrior Princess" and as Eomer in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, appeared twice this Summer onscreen in "The Chronicles of Riddick" and as a Russian assassin in "The Bourne Supremacy". Now, the Wellington-born thespian will star in "Doom" for Universal Pictures says trade paper The Hollywood Reporter.
The video game adaptation being directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, will have Urban playing John Grimm, the leader of a special ops team that is at the center of the futuristic action-adventure film. When dealing with alien demons, he is forced to cross paths with the organization responsible for his parents' deaths.
Production is slated to begin late next month, with an August 5th 2005 release date planned.
