The American Film Institute picked its Top Ten American Films of 2007 this weekend, here's the list in alphabetical order:
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead The Diving Bell and the Butterfly Into the Wild Juno Knocked Up Michael Clayton No Country for Old Men Ratatouille The Savages There Will Be Blood
Whilst I'm presently catching up on a lot of the films of the past four months that I didn't get a chance to see due to an ongoing health condition, I have to say of the three I have seen so far on this list I would agree with only one (Michael Clayton). The other two (Ratatouille, Knocked Up) whilst I'd recommend as films I certainly wouldn't qualify as Top Ten material.
The list also has some notable absences that are hitting the Top Ten lists of a number of critics like 3:10 to Yuma, American Gangster, The Assassination of Jesse James, Away from Her, Breach, The Bourne Ultimatum, Eastern Promises, I'm Not There, Sicko, Superbad, Sweeney Todd and Zodiac.
Notably absent as well, though that's because it's a list of American films, are the foreign-produced films topping the critics lists like 4 Months 3 Weeks 2 Days, Atonement, Control, The Kite Runner, Lust Caution, Once and Persepolis.
