Variety reports that Ash Brannon ("Toy Story 2") and Chris Buck ("Tarzan") are set to co-direct "Surf's Up," Sony Pictures Animation's latest feature film to be put into development. Chris Jenkins ("Atlantis: The Lost Empire") is producing, with surf apparel conglomerate Quiksilver serving as a 'creative consultant'.
A spoof of cult-surfing film "Endless Summer", the CGI film will resemble the drama quite closely with one difference -- it stars penguins. The mockumentary is based on "the groundbreaking revelation that surfing was actually invented by penguins".
In it, a documentary crew will take audiences behind the scenes of the most competitive and dangerous display of surfing known: The Penguin World Surfing Championships. No word on which humans will lend their voice talent.
