Fahrenheit 9/11: "Despite Michael Moore's comments that the DVD of "Fahrenheit 9/11" could be delayed because the movie may stay in theaters through the end of the year, the docu's DVD release date has been set for Oct. 5 -- less than a month before the Nov. 2 presidential election. The "Fahrenheit" homevid promo push is likely to be hampered by federal campaign finance regulations that forbid corporations from spending money on TV and radio ads that feature candidates..." (more info). Miramax Films: "Back in June, some papers announced imminent pinkslips at Miramax. If not this Friday, then certainly the next, gadflies said. Or maybe after the Fourth of July weekend. Now it's August and on Monday, the New York Post ran a story about Miramax really, really getting ready to slash its staff, as many as 160 of them. Not that it's happened yet, but it will ... any moment now..." (more info). The Frog King: "Intermedia has optioned "The Frog King," by Bret Easton Ellis, which the scribe adapted from the Adam Davies novel of the same name. Asif Kapadia is in negotiations to direct. Published in 2002, "The Frog King" is a first novel about an Ivy League-educated peon slaving away ingloriously at a New York publishing house. The one bright spot in Harry Driscoll's life is his girlfriend Evie, whom he manages to lose and then has to win back..." (more info). RIP Fay Wray: "Fay Wray, who achieved screen immortality when she starred as the frightened young woman carried by King Kong to the top of the Empire State Building, died Sunday of natural causes at her home in Manhattan. She was 96. The image of the diminutive, blonde-wigged Wray in the grasp of the giant, dark ape atop what was at the time the world's tallest building is one of cinema's most recognizable and powerful images..." Airborne: "Albert Ruddy and Andre Morgan have partnered with filmmaker Steve Sommers and his producing partner Bob Ducsey to produce "Airborn," a fantasy adventure for Universal Pictures. Based on a children's book by Kenneth Oppel, "Airborn" tells the tale of a 15-year-old boy who works on a luxury airship that is part dirigible, part passenger cruise ship. When air pirates attack the airship, the boy, along with a female partner, embark on an adventure that includes strange flying creatures, secret lairs and uncharted volcanic islands..." (more info). Red Eye: "Horrormeister Wes Craven has boarded the flight to direct the thriller "Red Eye" for DreamWorks. The film centers on a woman held captive by a stranger on an airliner who threatens to kill her father unless she helps him arrange the assassination of a wealthy businessman..." (more info). The Graduate Sequel: "After just one week of principal photography, Ted Griffin, a screenwriter who was making his directorial debut on the project, is being replaced, with Rob Reiner in negotiations to take over the reinst. The studio has shut down filming, which it plans to resume Aug. 18. Griffin wrote the script for the romantic comedy, which centers on a young woman (Jennifer Aniston) who discovers that her grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) was the basis for the character of Mrs. Robinson in the 1967 film "The Graduate"..." (more info). Bond 21: Vic Armstrong is being rumoured as a director. Armstrong has served as the either the stunt co-ordinator or second unit director on many films including three of the four Brosnan pics.
