Criminal Macabre: "Bragi Schut has been hired to write the comic book property "Criminal Macabre" for MGM. Based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles, the story revolves around Cal McDonald, a hard-drinking, impetuous detective who takes on the supernatural in a decidedly low-tech, film noir style. Killer's Game: "Intermedia is in final negotiations with Paramount Pictures for the studio to take worldwide distribution rights to the action thriller "Killer's Game." Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar is producing, with Scott Kroopf and Alex Litvak overseeing for Intermedia and Paramount's Brian Witten overseeing for the studio. "Game" tells the tale of an expert assassin who takes out a contract on himself. When he decides he'd rather live, he must match his skills against the best hit men of the world..." (more info). Spartan News: "In a mid-six-figure deal, Universal Pictures has acquired comedy spec script "Spartan News," written by feature scribe Mike Samonek. Samonek co-wrote the soon-to-be-released animated feature "Racing Stripes" for Alcon/Warner Bros. and penned "The Whole Pemberton Thing" for Alcon. He's then forced to compete for his job by leading a ragtag group of co-workers in a paintball contest..." (more info). Untitled Self-Preservation Comedy: "In a rare pricey pitch sale, Warner Bros. Pictures has paid high-six against low-seven figures to acquire an untitled pitch from writers Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick. Comedy's storyline is being kept under wraps but is understood to concern a man who's lost all sense of self-preservation and fear. Scribes are best known for co-writing Disney's "The Santa Clause" and its sequel as well as Warner's "Space Jam"..." (more info). Zathura: "Dax Shepard is set to appear in Columbia's "Zathura" for director Jon Favreau. David Koepp penned the most recent version of the script, based on the children's book by Chris Van Allsburg, who also wrote the family adventure film "Jumanji."
