Wolfe & Van Sant Drink The Kool-Aid

Here's a surprising pairing - acclaimed author Tom Wolfe and acclaimed filmmaker Gus Van Sant. They're teaming up for an adaptation of Wolfe's 1967 hallucinogenic novel "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" reports Variety.

The story follows the 1964 cross-country bus trip from California to New York that author Ken Kesey and a group called the Merry Pranksters.

Along the way they took, and freely encouraged others to take, vast amounts of LSD which inspired Kesey to write his most famous work - "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Van Sant ("My Own Private Idaho," "Gerry") will direct, and Lance Black ("Big Love") will write the script. The story will focus on Kesey and include events that occurred after the road trip.
