Universal Pictures & Stuber/Parent will develop a remake of the 1939 Paramount comedy "Midnight" as a star vehicle for Reese Witherspoon reports Variety.

In the original, Claudette Colbert starred as a destitute young woman in Paris who becomes a pawn when a wealthy man tries to get rid of the gigolo wooing his wife. Acclaimed filmmaker Billy Wilder co-wrote the script.

The new version, scripted by Michael Arndt ("Little Miss Sunshine"), will not be the next film on Witherspoon's slate - though she's undecided as to what will fill that slot at present.
