'Zephyr' here with not only some release date news, but what turns out to be an announcement of a major tentpole for 20th Century Fox.
I Could Never Be Your Woman, an Amy Heckerling-directed romatic comedy starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd has now been listed under Fall 2007.
Bratz! The Movie has moved up a week from August 10th to August 3rd. The logic behind it is a bit baffling; it'll now have to compete against three other comedies: Charlie Barlett, Hot Rod, and the big dog Underdog. Once again...August has too many damn comedies.
Tyler Perry's Why Did I Ever Get Married, the next feature film from modern film-entrepeuner Tyler Perry, will compete against Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and Beowulf on November 16th, 2007.
Foodfight!, a Lionsgate CGI-animated film starring Hilary Duff, Charlie Sheen, Eva Longoria, and Christopher Lloyd, has moved from November 16th, 2007 all the way to April 11th, 2008.
DOA: Dead or Alive, the only other film that could do more damage to video game movies than Uwe Boll, has moved up a week to June 15th, 2007 as the 22nd has become surprisingly crowded.
The Game Plan, a family comedy starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, will come out September 28th, 2007 will it'll fill in its own family niche.
Two big release dates have been announced for two new films from Fox Animation, both of which has snatched major tentpole dates.
The Fantastic Mr. Fox, a Wes Anderson-directed Roald Dahl-adapted film featuring the voices of George Clooney and Cate Blanchett, will come out November 6th, 2009. The first weekend of November is a prime spot for any film, so kudos to Fox for grabbing this up.
Now here's the big announcement. I've been wondering who would get the Fourth of July Weekend in 2009. Would it be Prince of Persia? Marvel's Captain America? Warner Bros. Superman: The Man of Steel, Flash, or Captain Marvel? Pixar's next film? How about none of the above.
Turns out that the previously unannounced Ice Age III has shoved an ice pick on July 1st, 2009. I understand that it would be a different date because the final week of March has already been taken by Sony Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but this is still an incredibly ballsy move. I just cannot believe that this film would be able to get it before Superman and Captain America, for crying out loud.
However, because it's a family film, we could see a strong counter-film similar to this year's Live Free or Die Hard/Ratatouille and a potential John Rambo/Wall-E matchup. I don't see the other studios backing down.
