Naomi Watts spoke with Sci-Fi Wire today and revealed that she initially worried that her ape-ish co-star wouldn't be on the set and would be added in later with computer graphics, but that Jackson eased her fears. "[I] won't be [acting against] nothing. That's one of the things he told me in our initial meeting, because I would be very worried about that. Andy Serkis is going to be not only a character in the film, but he's going to be a pair of eyes for me to look at [on set]. There's a huge amount of emotion looking [at him]." Serkis will voice the giant ape and perform him on stage as a reference for the computer animation, in the same way that he performed Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings" movies.
Watts is also daunted by the legacy left by the two previous Kong film heroinnes - Fay Wray and Jessica Lange: "Fay Wray is a huge inspiration, and so is Jessica Lange. It's a very iconic movie and iconic role, so there's a little bit of fear about that, but also intrigue. And Peter Jackson is a genius. He will make it his own and do something completely different and modernize it, even though it's set in the '30s. He's got some great ideas, which I'm not at liberty to divulge right now".
Thanks to 'Antoine'.
