McG Talks Superman Departure

By Garth Franklin Friday July 16th 2004 10:16PM

After talking through trade papers and publicists, McG finally spoke about the reasons behind his departure from the "Superman" project to Sci-Fi Wire today and claimed the major reason wasn't to do with location, but rather creative differences.

"I was passionate about telling the genesis story, and the studio wanted something a little different. We were working on the picture for a long time, and ultimately we just agreed that it's best just to pursue other interests at this point" says the "Charlie's Angels" Director whose currently out promoting his new upcoming television series "The Mountain" for The WB Network.

The split seems amicable though and hasn't affected his dealings with the TV network - "I'm going to look into some of the things we have in development at Wonderland and go some different directions and watch over our television business and keep trying to develop the storytelling".

Meanwhile, comics writer Mark Miller posted a juicy comment on his official site about the "Superman" project - “I have EVERY faith in this project. A Superman movie with a great director, a great writer and an inspired cast can only be good news. This is Goyer/ Nolan-level good news. WB are about to redeem themselves big time. I'll be first in line when this comes out”.

In other news, "Blade" & "Batman Begins" scribe David Goyer spoke out on BladeTrinity.Com about rumours that he is attached to direct the project - "The rumor about me and Superman? Not true. They haven't approached me -- even to write on it. But I am talking to Warners about another potential DC property".
