Warner Bros. Pictures International has joined with Warner Independent Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures to handle international distribution on Becker Entertainment's coming-of-age
drama December Boys, starring Daniel Radcliffe, fresh off his latest performance in the title role of Harry Potter and
the Order of the Phoenix. The announcement was made jointly today by Sue Kroll and Veronika Kwan-Rubinek,
Warner Bros. Pictures International's President, Marketing, and President, Distribution, respectively, and Graham
Burke, Co-Chairman, Village Roadshow Pictures Group.
"December Boys is one of those unique movies where people come out of the theatre often having had a good
cry and feeling really good," said Burke. "I think it will connect with audiences in all cultures. The film has been a
wonderful collaboration between the Film Finance Corporation, Richard Becker and us at Village Roadshow Pictures."
"We're delighted to work with Warner Independent and Village Roadshow in releasing this compelling project
around the world," said Kwan-Rubinek. Kroll added, "We are likewise thrilled to be involved in Daniel's next project
as he continues to bring new dimensions to his career."
Based on the classic Michael Noonan novel, December Boys is the story of four orphan teenagers growing up
in a Catholic convent in outback Australia during the 1960s. As the boys watch younger kids get adopted by loving
families, they begin to realize that their turn may never come. When the boys visit the seaside one summer, they
compete for the attention of a couple who would make the perfect parents and eventually learn the real meaning of
family.
December Boys is directed by Rod Hardy, whose credits include Buffalo Girls, and popular TV series such as
The X-Files and The Practice, adapted from Noonan's novel by Marc Rosenberg. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as
Maps, Christian Byers as Spark, Lee Cormie as Misty, James Fraser as Spit, Teresa Palmer as Lucy, and Jack
Thompson as Bandy McAnsh. The film also stars Sullivan Stapleton, Victoria Hill, Ralph Cotterill, Frank Gallacher
and Kris McQuade. The film is produced by Richard Becker.
Filmed on location in South Australia and at the South Australian Film Corporation Studio, December Boys is
financed by Film Finance Corporation of Australia, South Australian Film Corporation, with German investor MB 2
Film & Media GmbH.
The project represents the first-ever joint venture between Roadshow Distribution and Becker Entertainment.
Warner Independent Pictures releases December Boys in the US on September 14. Internationally, the film will be
distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures International, and, in select territories, by Village Roadshow Pictures and Becker
Entertainment.
