Amy Adams ("Junebug," "Enchanted") will pal around with Frances McDormand in Focus Features' upcoming period tale "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" reports Variety.

In the romantic tale, set in 1939, Adams will portray an American songbird who befriends a dowdy governess (McDormand) sent to her home by mistake.

Based on Winifred Watson's novel, the pic will begin filming in the U.K. this week. Bharat Nalluri is directing. The script was written by Simon Beaufoy ("The Full Monty") and David Magee ("Finding Neverland").
