A Philosophical Investigation: ""The X-Files" creator Chris Carter is set to direct the big-screen adaptation of British author Philip Kerr's "A Philosophical Investigation" for Paramount Pictures. Mace Neufeld, who has owned the rights to the novel for close to a decade, is producing with Carter and "X-Files" collaborator Frank Spotnitz. Carter and Spotnitz also will adapt the thriller..." (more info). Dreamer: "DreamWorks is in talks to pick up the project "Dreamer" in turnaround from Warner Bros. Pictures with John Gatins attached to make his directorial debut and Kurt Russell on board to topline. Tollin/Robbins Prods. is producing the true story-inspired project about a Kentucky horse trainer and his 11-year-old son who rescue a horse with a broken leg. The two then help nurse the animal back to health and take it to race in the Breeders' Cup. Russell is set to play the horse trainer..." (more info). Furry Vengeance: "New Line has found its leading man for "Furry Vengeance," the comedy bought as a spec script last month (Daily Variety, June 8). "Anchorman" co-star Steve Carell will play a cutthroat real estate developer who meets his match in the animals that will be rendered homeless if he's successful in turning their forest into a housing development..."
