Dean Reed Biopic: "Tom Hanks and DreamWorks have picked up the rights to the life story of Dean Reed, an American singer, actor and filmmaker whose 15-year career in East Germany was halted by his mysterious death in 1986. Hanks, who has been interested in the project since 2001, will star as Reed; Hanks and Walter Parkes will produce..." (more info). Fahrenheit 9/11: "Illinois-based GKC Theatres and Iowa-based Fridley Theatres have decided to not screen the film. Both theater chains, which were not in Lions Gate's original 800-theater distribution plan, are protesting the content of Moore's film. A statement from owner Robert Fridley said the company is not playing the film because it believes that "Fahrenheit" is propaganda..." (more info). Fever Pitch: ""Fever Pitch" is heating up as Drew Barrymore is set and Jimmy Fallon is in negotiations to topline the Fox 2000 project based on Nick Hornby's book. The Farrelly brothers are in talks to direct, and if a deal can be made for the comedy duo, they will helm "Fever" first and then immediately segue to "The Three Stooges" for Warner Bros. Pictures. Hornby's book -- described by some as an autobiography and a soccer bible rolled into one -- centers on the British author's obsession with soccer, specifically the team Arsenal..." (more info). Piracy: "Likening piracy to "a growing global epidemic," the MPAA released a study Thursday indicating that nearly a quarter of Internet users worldwide have illegally downloaded a movie and that 17% of those who have done so are spending less to consume movies through legitimate means..." (more info).Beat The Clock: Sneak Peek reports that director Bob Clark (Porky's, A Christmas Story, Murder By Decree) has signed on to direct the action comedy Beat The Clock, described as a cross between A Fish Called Wanda and Analyze This. The UK co-production is slated to film in Canada later this year. Cellular: The official site has been newly relaunched. Elizabethtown: Alec Baldwin and Bruce McGill have signed onto Cameron Crowe's "Elizabethtown", shooting this month.The film revolves around a young suicidal man who is on his way to his home town Elizabethtown, Kentucky to attend his father's funeral. On the way there, he meets and falls in love with a flight attendant and is given a new purpose in life. The film also stars Orlando Bloom, Kristen Dunst and Susan Sarandon. Baldwin will play Phil, Bloom's character's work boss and McGill will play Bill Banyon, mid-level charlatan. LOTR: Return of the King: An employee of the Odeon theater chain in the U.K. has posted a message on a Lord of the Rings website disclosing that the chain has been notified that the three extended versions of the Rings films will be distributed to theaters in October, ahead of their DVD release in December. Another employee of a theater in Denmark said that his managers received a message from the films' distributors noting that the three extended versions will be shipped to "a select number of cinemas" in Denmark in "mid-October". Miss Congeniality 2: The New York Post indicates Regis Philbin has filmed a cameo. Seed of Chucky: The first official pic is up at Judao. Smallville (TV): The Hollywood Reporter tonight confirmed KryptonSite's report from this morning that Jensen Ackles (Dawson's Creek, Dark Angel, Still Life) will be playing "Jason Teague" on Smallville starting this Fall. The role will be a series regular. The Princess Diaries 2: The soundtrack to the G-rated Disney flick is due August 3, 2004, and the one of the tracks from the film is "I Decide" by Lindsay Lohan.
