sp;> Dark HorizonsAnother day, another bout of "Superman" gossip. After that debacle with the Net gossip involving McG the other week I became determined not to print anything on the film unless it was concrete. Well today comes one major newspaper report and one 'scooper' with a reasonably reliable background. When it comes to this project, it's best to treat it like "Star Wars" goss - short of press release, nothing is absolute and much is speculation at best.
<a href="http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2004-07-08-irobot-premiere_x.htm" target="_blank">USA Today</a> talked with rising scruffy haired youngster Shia LaBeouf (yes he's just become legal) at the premiere of "I, Robot" this week and the actor talked about the possibility of playing Jimmy Olsen - "I met with McG (the director) today and talked about Jimmy Olsen and who's going to be playing who, The production's so locked down they said I can't even take the script home". More importantly LaBeouf confirmed that a November start of filming date is set and Jake Gyllenhaal is out of the running, the studio is going with an unknown for the title role. Right now McG is trying to lure Scarlett Johansson for Lois Lane and Johnny Depp for Lex Luthor.
A few hours before this broke, a source named 'Kata-Zor 72' sent this report in which seems to match some of that news: "I work at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia. Yesterday, we got the order to start construction on sets for the new Superman movie. I'm working on what appears to be an interior for Planet Krypton. It looks a lot like the Krypton Council set from the Donner movie but a lot more silver and metallic in the colour scheme. Less ice, more steel basically. The design includes a series of platforms with podiums. One of the platforms is raised about five inches higher than the others. I asked my boss why this is and he said it was so "Depp wouldn't look like a shortass". I asked him what role Depp was playing and he told us he didn't know. One of my buddies who was working on the Daily Planet set told me it's a lot larger than what we're used to. He told me there were more desks and less offices than usual. The door to "Hoffman's office" is the only thing they had finished".
Then, just a few minutes ago, <a href="http://filmforce.ign.com/superman/articles/529/529286p1.html" target="_blank">IGN Filmforce</a> reports that Warner Brothers president Alan Horn met a certain director the other day for dinner and offered him the chance to helm the next Superman movie. That director was none other than Bryan Singer, the filmmaker behind the X-Men movies. Their scooper claims Singer has not said yes...but is considering it. He currently has both "X-Men 3" and "Logan's Run" on his schedule to shoot.
