Black Autumn: "Fox 2000 Pictures has inked a distribution deal with independent producer Phoenix Pictures to release its thriller "Black Autumn," to be helmed by current DGA prexy Michael Apted. Pic is based on an original screenplay by Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan, which was rewritten by Christine Roum under Apted's supervision. Production is gearing up for a fall start, with casting under way. Story centers on a girl who gets a scholarship to an elite private school only to realize that her selection is linked to the school's terrifyingly dark secret..." (more info). Fahrenheit 9/11: "The battle over the rating on Michael Moore's doc still rages on. Today the "Fahrenheit" camp will appeal the R rating the docu received from the Motion Picture Assn. of America earlier this month "for violence, disturbing images and language." Moore did not make any changes to the pic for today's appeals screening. Instead, Lions Gate prexy Tom Ortenberg, who will rep the pic at the appeal, will make the case that the doc will contribute to the national political debate and therefore should be available to the widest audience possible..." (more info). Must Love Dogs: "Warner Bros. has set Diane Lane to star in "Must Love Dogs," written and to be directed by Gary David Goldberg. The romantic comedy starts shooting September 27. Lane will play a divorcee who, after choosing another Mr. Wrong, swears off dating. Her close-knit Irish-American family enrolls her in a number of online dating programs..." (more info). The Immortal Part: "Nina Sadowsky, Meg Ryan's producing partner in Prufrock Pictures and former president of Stewart Till's Signpost, has started a second career -- as a screenwriter. She has notched a deal to adapt Christopher Wakling novel "The Immortal Part" for Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Book concerns a young attorney in London who, distracted by a family illness, makes a careless mistake that puts him in the midst of corruption and murder..." (more info). 300: "Warner Bros. Pictures, Atmosphere Entertainment MM and Hollywood Gang Prods. are arming themselves to refight the Persian-Greco war with "300," a feature film adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel about the legendary Battle of Thermopylae and the origins of democracy. "Dawn of the Dead" helmer Zach Snyder has signed on to direct and also will do a Page 1 rewrite with Kurt Johnstad..." (more info). Grilled: "Burt Reynolds is lighting up the barbecue for New Line Cinema's "Grilled." Juliette Lewis is in negotiations to join the comedy. Jason Ensler is directing the Ray Romano-Kevin James feature, which follows a day in the life of two meat salesmen who will stop at nothing to make a sale. Reynolds plays Cookie Goldbluth, a prospect for the two salesman. Lewis would play a character who is ditzy and suicidal. Shooting is scheduled to start July 7 in Los Angeles..." (more info). Lovewrecked: "Former "The O.C." regular Chris Carmack is in negotiations to team with Amanda Bynes in the romantic comedy "Lovewrecked" for helmer Randal Kleiser. Media 8 Entertainment is producing along with the recently relaunched Bacon & Eggs from a script by Stephen Langford. "Lovewrecked" finds Bynes as Jenny, an 18-year-old who is ecstatic when she learns that her favorite rock star -- to be played by Carmack -- is a guest at the tropical resort where she is working for the summer. Somebody Loves You: "Producer Robert Lantos' Serendipity Point Films banner said Monday that it has signed Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth to play the lead roles in writer-helmer Atom Egoyan's upcoming feature "Somebody Loves You." The film noir project is based on the Rupert Holmes novel "Where the Truth Lies" and explores the "underbelly of fame, fortune and the mores of sexual convention," according to its producers..." The Kid & I: "Tom Arnold's screenplay "The Kid & I" is coming alive in front of cameras this week in Los Angeles with Arnold starring alongside Shannon Elizabeth, Linda Hamilton, Richard Edson, Joe Mantegna and newcomer Eric Gores for helmer Penelope Spheeris. The indie project stars Gores as Aaron Roman, a 17-year-old with cerebral palsy who dreams of being in an action movie. His wealthy entrepreneur father (Mantegna) tells Aaron he can have anything he wants for his 18th birthday, only to have to hustle to get the movie made..."
