MonkeyPeaches reports that Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep, Michelle Yeoh, and Zhang Ziyi are all rumoured to be in talks to sign on to the $40 million US-Chinese co-production "The Rape of Nanking".

A massive set, seven and a half football fields in size,s is being construced for the project. The set will be made up of replicas of parts of the city of Nanking, circa 1930s.

The book is about the fall of the Chinese capital of Nanking to the invading Japanese in 1937. The taking of the capital began a several weeks long massacre in which the Japanese killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and prisoners.

The film adaptation of the novel has been written by William J. McDonald and Simon West is already set to direct. If the gossip is true and Eastwood is involved, it'll be the first acting-only job he's done on a project since 1993.
