Willem Dafoe has signed on to star opposite Jeff Goldblum in Bleiberg Entertainment's "Adam Resurrected," a World War II Holocaust drama which Paul Schrader is directing.
"Resurrected" is based on the acclaimed 2000 book by Israeli novelist Yoram Kaniuk. The story centers on Adam Stein (Goldblum), a former circus entertainer who was spared the gas chamber so he might entertain thousands of other Jews as they were marched to their deaths.
After the war, he becomes the leader at an asylum populated by Holocaust survivors. Dafoe is playing a Nazi officer whose life is saved by Stein and later spares him.
Noah Stollman wrote the adaptation and an April production start date is set in Germany, Romania and Israel reports the trades.
