A Colosseum Shoot For Jumper

"The Bourne Identity" and "Go" director Doug Liman recently was able to spend three days shooting a pivotal love scene in Rome's Colosseum for his new film "Jumper".

Scheduled for release by 20th Century Fox in the spring of 2008, "Jumper" is based on the Steven Gould novel about a young man who learns that he has the power of teleportation.

Only a few films have had access to the stadium, and "Jumper" will mark the first time shooting has been allowed on the subterranean level of the monument says The New York Times.

To get access to shoot with his two key stars (Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson), a dozen crew and around ninety extras waiting outside, the red tape involved included months of personal appeals and back-and-forth correspondence about his vision for the film.

Even then, their rules for shooting were severely restricted. Two two-hour intervals in the early morning and late afternoon were all that could be used, and clearing out equipment couldn't interfere with the other daily visitors to the landmark.

Also, sound crew all wore harnesses to avoid letting anything touch the ground, whilst only natural lighting conditions were permitted - and NO props.

The production has already used a multitude of locations for filming including Paris, China, Egypt, the Sahara, Toronto, New York, Michigan and Tokyo.

The paper has also included this snazzy photo from the set.
