The American Film Institute relaxed this year with a lot of popular choices managing to make it into their best films of 2006, whilst some more high profile and depressing fare was overlooked.
"Babel", "Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan", "The Devil Wears Prada", "Dreamgirls", "Half Nelson", "Happy Feet", "Inside Man", "Letters From Iwo Jima", "Little Miss Sunshine" and "United 93" all slipped into the short list for best films. Notably missing titles included "The Departed" and "Flags of Our Fathers".
The institute also handed out their ten best television shows for the year with "Battlestar Galactica", "Dexter", "Elizabeth I", "Friday Night Lights", "Heroes", "The Office", "South Park", "24", "The West Wing" and "The Wire" all taking honors.
