If you thought marionette comedies were restricted to "Team America" and "Robot Chicken", think again as the Brits are having a go with the World War II comedy spoof "Jackboots On Whitehall".
Using specially designed GI Joe-type action figures as the characters, the $2 million-budgeted movie imagines what would have happened had Germany won the Battle of Britain but were then defeated by the Scots at the border with England.
Lending their voices will be the likes of Alan Cumming as Hitler, Tom Wilkinson as Goebbels, Richard O'Brien as Himmler, and Timothy Spall as Winston Churchill reports the trades.
Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Neil Newbon, Pam Ferris, Tobias Menzies and Hugh Fraser also cast. Swipe Films began recording the all-star cast's vocal contributions yesterday, whilst principal photography is scheduled to begin next March.
"Jackboots" marks the directorial debut of Edward McHenry, who also co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Rory. Purpose built models of landmarks like Hadrian's Wall and Downing Street will also be used.
