Susan Sarandon and Jonathan Tucker have joined the cast of Paul Haggis' next project "In the Valley of Elah" says The Hollywood Reporter.
Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron have been cast in the mystery thriller follows a veteran father (Jones) in search of his son, an exemplary soldier who recently returned from Iraq and has mysteriously gone AWOL.
His investigations, with the help of a reporter (Theron) lead him to uncover a murder that the army is trying to cover up. Sarandon will play Jones' wife, whilst Tucker will play the son.
The story is a fictional spin on a true life story from an investigative article in Playboy titled "Death and Dishonor" by Mark Boal. Boal and Haggis collaborated on the screenplay.
The film marks the first feature film directorial effort for Haggis since last year's Best Picture winner "Crash".
He has contributed to various screenplays in the interim, most notably penning the screenplay for "Flags of our Fathers" and contributing re-writes on several projects including Zach Braff's "The Last Kiss" and the latest James Bond flick "Casino Royale".
Shooting on "Elah" begins this month in New Mexico and Morocco.
