Leatherheads Recruits Office Spunk

John Krasinski (TV's "The Office") is in negotiations to star alongside George Clooney and Renee Zellweger in Universal's football romantic comedy "Leatherheads" says The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Steven Schiff and Clooney, the 1920's set story centers on team owner Jimmy "Dodge" Connelly (Clooney), who hires straight-laced college football sensation Carter Rutherford (Krasinski) to play professionally.

The scandalous sport becomes popular and commercialized, and confirmed bachelor Dodge falls for Carter's reluctant fiancee, Lexi (Zellweger). Clooney will direct the project which is aiming for a slated for a spring 2007 shoot.

Krasinski is keeping busy with a leading role in "License to Wed", and cameos in three big films this season - "The Holiday," "Dreamgirls" and "For Your Consideration".
