New Line Cinema has hired Ericson Core ("Invincible") to direct the modern-day Robin Hood tale "Conrail" reports Variety.
Eddie Mongon was the ringleader of the Conrail Boyz gang, which robbed trains using a combination of high-tech equipment and street smarts, and then shared the proceeds with the poor of Hoboken, N.J.
Mongon was arrested in 2004. New Line has been developing the project since obtaining life rights two years ago to his story.
Core will supervise a rewrite of Chris Murphey's script. He remains attached to direct Touchstone action thriller "Liberty" and a biopic of Nazi escapee turned marathon athlete Stylianos Kyriakides.
