A Jungle Welcome Hits AFM

No longer just the name of a Guns & Roses song, "Welcome to Jungle" is the title of a top secret project screened for the first time this week at the American Film Market by blockbuster producer Gale Ann Hurd ("Aliens", "Terminator 2 & 3").

Written & directed by Jonathan Hensleigh ("The Punisher", "Die Hard: With a Vengeance"), the Blair Witch-esque horror film is the 'discovered' video footage of a quartet of 20-somethings who venture into the New Guinea jungle in search of Michael Rockefeller.

The real Rockefeller, a fourth generation member of the well-known magnate family, disappeared during an expedition in the Asmat region of southwestern New Guinea in the early 60's.

As it's a horror film, an hour in the quartet becomes pulled into a rather gory cannibal encounter. One review has gone up at Fangoria who wasn't impressed, citing the film as essentially an ineffective remake of the Ruggero Deodato schlock classic "Cannibal Holocaust".

One issue not yet addressed - a likely international title change. 2003's "The Rundown" starring The Rock and Seann William Scott was released as "Welcome to the Jungle" in many overseas markets.
