Arclight Films has picked up international rights to Alfonso Arau's upcoming "Dare to Love Me" says Variety.
The $15 million English-language epic romancer set in 1930s Paris about the life of Argentinean tango legend Carlos Gardel.
Rodrigo Santoro (TV's "Lost", "Love Actually") plays the crooner while "Spanglish" star Paz Vega and pop icon Shakira will play his love interests in a romantic triangle. Jordi Molla also stars.
Cinematographer Vittorio Storaro ("The Last Emperor") and composer Luis Enriquez Bacalov ("Il Postino") are also attached, whilst Jeremy Leven ("The Notebook" and "Don Juan de Marco") penned the screenplay.
Principal photography is slated to begin in Romania in spring. Arau is best know for such acclaimed films as "Like Water for Chocolate" and "A Walk in the Clouds".
