The Chicago Sun-Times reports that having just wrapped up work on his first film "Edison", Justin Timberlake's desire to conquer the world continues as he's already planning his next celluloid project. 'Trousersnake', whose been spotted the last few weeks languishing in the Southern France sunshine, is in talks to star in a big-screen version of the hit musical "Rent" which will be directed by former Chicagoan Chris Columbus ("Harry Potter 1 & 2").
In fact Columbus confirmed to the paper that "There is a role for a pop star who can really sing, and Justin is dying to do it...I'm making everyone take screen tests, including Justin". Columbus is currently finishing a script and hopes to start filming this fall in New York City and San Francisco. Of handling such a long-awaited film adaptation he says "I've been obsessed with the play for years. It's the best musical ever. I also feel the message is really important in today's world".
Meanwhile one guy who certainly doesn't have to test for anything is Gary Oldman. The gruff acting veteran is also involved with another long awaited adaptation next year - the reinvention of the "Batman" franchise. As we know Oldman plays Jim Gordon in "Batman Begins" and according to AICN:
"He said that he really liked Chris Nolan's take on the material and that Nolan only accepted the job on the understanding he could do it his way, with little interference. He even said something about 'doing it for half the money', although I assume he means in terms of Nolan's wage rather than budget. To this end, Oldman said that he was expecting the movie to be R Rated. He noted an interesting aside Michael Caine made to him about Superman and Batman, the former being how America views itself, the latter, darker character being how the rest of the world views America".
