Warner Independent Pictures has landed film rights to "Little Children" scribe Tom Perrotta's forthcoming book "The Abstinence Teacher" reports Variety.
"Abstinence" is about a divorced sex ed teacher forced by religious conservatives to teach abstinence. While fighting for the freedom to keep touting the joys of sex, she falls for a born-again soccer coach.
Perrotta has also penned "Election" and "Citizen Ruth", the former having become a cult hit black comedy starring Reese Witherspoon several years ago. He will collaborate with the director on the screenplay for "Abstinence". Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa ("Little Miss Sunshine") are producing.
